Well, I did it. I got that little spacer out. It
wasn't too difficult. I tried to not remove the
carb but the screws were so tight from the factory
that I had to take off the entire carb to get a
better grip and angle. I also had to use a impact
wrench on two of the screws holding the top cover.
I re-installed it but I put the internal spring that
keeps the needle up in wrong. I had to dissassemble
again but this time I was able to leave the carb in
place.
Results: NO MORE BACKFIRING! My backfiring was not as
bad while riding, mine would occur everytime I shut the
engine off, it would give a loud bang with actual blue
flame shooting out of my pipe. Now it is not doing
that anymore
Also, I notice a definite increase in midrange acceleration,
all the way up to highway cruising speed of 65mph.
No difference in top end speed, but I didn't expect it.
I my opinion, the bike's acceleration performance has
increased up to 20 percent. I highly recommend this relatively
simple procedure to anyone that feels their bike is
lacking in performance. Also, a bike that runs too
lean, runs the risk of overheating on hot days.
I'd be happy to detail the procedure involved to
anyone who wants to do this, but lacks confidence in
their mechanical abilities. Just send e-mail.
